Learn how to efficiently delete multiple users at once or anonymize their personal data within the system. This process allows you to manage user information in bulk, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations and maintaining the integrity of your database. Whether you need to remove inactive accounts or protect user privacy by anonymizing sensitive details, this guide will walk you through the necessary steps to perform these actions effectively and securely.
Remove or anonymize user accounts to keep your member list clean and protect personal data.
Use these steps when a member requests to have their data removed, or when you need to clean up old, inactive, or duplicate accounts in bulk.
Option 1: Delete a Single User
- Go to People → Users in the left-hand sidebar of your admin portal.
- Search for the user by name, email, or member ID.
- Click the ••• next to their name.
- Select Delete User from the dropdown.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
💡 Note: Deleting a user permanently removes their account. If they have purchase history you need to keep for your records, consider anonymizing instead (see Option 2 below).
Option 2: Anonymize a Single User
Anonymizing replaces a user's personal information with placeholder data. Their transaction history stays intact, but their name, email, and contact details are scrubbed.
- Go to People → Users in the left-hand sidebar.
- Search for the user by name, email, or member ID.
- Click the ••• next to their name.
- Select Delete from the dropdown.
- Click the checkbox to also anonymize data
- Read the information in full
- Type ANONYMIZE
- Confirm when prompted.
💡 Note: Anonymization is permanent and cannot be undone. Use this option when a member requests their personal data be removed but you still need to retain their order history.
Option 3: Bulk Delete or Anonymize Multiple Users
Use filters to select a group of users, then apply the action to all of them at once.
- Go to People → Users in the left-hand sidebar.
- Use the Filter options to narrow down the list — for example, filter by tag, membership status, or last activity date.
- Select the checkbox at the top of the list to select all users matching your filter.
- Click the Bulk Delete option at the top
- Choose Delete or Anonymize from the options.
- If anonymizing click the checkbox to also anonymize and also
- Review the number of users affected, then confirm the action.
💡 Note: Double-check your filters before confirming a bulk action. Deletions and anonymizations cannot be reversed.
