Family Groups let you organize related member accounts under one group owner. You can review group members, check account access status, send claim invitations, and reassign group ownership.

Open Family Groups
1. Sign in to the Communal admin portal.
2. Open People.
3. Select Family Members.
The page displays one row per family group. Groups are paginated as complete groups, so members belonging to the same group remain together.
Search for a group or member
Use the Search field to search by:
- Member name
- Member email address
- Business name
Search results can match either the group owner or a member of the group.
Review group members
Each group can include:
- The group owner
- Additional family members
- Members who have not yet claimed or activated their account
Expand or open a group to review its members. The member list includes:
- Member ID
- Member name
- Email address
- Account status
Account statuses may include:
- Claimed: The member has claimed their account.
- Invited (unclaimed): An invitation was sent, but the account has not been claimed.
- No login: The member does not currently have login access.
- Not invited: No account-claim invitation has been sent.
Send account-claim invitations
You can send claim invitations to eligible members who need access to their account.
1. Select the eligible members using the checkboxes.
2. Select Send claim invitations.
3. Confirm the action if prompted.
Communal queues the invitations and displays how many were queued. Some selected members may be skipped if they are no longer eligible, for example if their account status changed before the invitation was sent.
Tip: Use the Claim Status filter to find members who have no login, have not been invited, or have been invited but have not yet claimed their account.
What a family member will see when they are claiming their account:
Change the group owner
A group owner can be reassigned to another confirmed member of the group.
1. Find the relevant Family Group.
2. Locate the member who should become the new owner.
3. Open the member’s actions menu.
4. Select Make group owner.
5. Review the confirmation message.
6. Select Reassign.
The selected confirmed member becomes the new group owner. Use this option when the current owner is no longer the appropriate account holder.
Remove a member from a group
Use the member’s available delete or remove action when a member should no longer belong to the group.
Before removing a member, confirm that:
- You selected the correct person.
- Any memberships, registrations, or account access associated with that member have been reviewed.
- The change is consistent with your organization’s account-management policies.
Family Groups and memberships
Some memberships may be provided through a member’s Family Group. A member with a group-provided membership may see that the membership is derived from the Family Group rather than assigned directly to their individual account.
Troubleshooting
I cannot see Family Members
The feature may not be enabled for your organization, or your administrator role may not include access to user management. Contact your organization’s Communal administrator.
I cannot send an invitation
Only eligible members can receive claim invitations. Check the member’s current claim status and confirm that an email address is available.
I cannot reassign the owner
The reassignment action is available when the selected member is eligible to become the new owner. Confirm that the member has a valid account and is not already the current owner.
A member is missing from the group
Search by the member’s name or email address. If the member still does not appear, verify that the member-account relationship has been created correctly and contact support if needed.
